My Husband Loves Boobs!

The Boobie Warrior

Breast Cancer Awareness month has once again come to a close for the year! And 2013 is my hubby's 6th year crewing with Avon Walk for breast cancer and counting - to save the boobies! I'm a proud wife bar none. Each year, I feel nothing but pride and admiration for him and his solid dedication to volunteer for this cause that have a very significant meaning to him. A couple of years ago, he lost a sister to the disease after years of fighting and suffering

In Memory of Val - A Mother Stolen by Breast Cancer And the Fight to END it!

Valerie Dowd
July 1956 - Sept 2011

You know what? I wish I didn't have to write this. I wish I didn't have a breast cancer story to share but no, I've got one and I'm not happy about it. Losing someone to death is always devastating. More so when it happened twice in a row. After losing my step-father to death, just a month after that, we lost Val to breast cancer. Though her passing was a display of strong faith and courage, no one can deny the agony of losing someone. I wish there was a way that her death could have been prevented...

A Mom and Mini-Me Walk in honor of Avon Walk Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Last time, I said "Just drink Coffee!" as part of my 5 No-Brainer ways to help show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as a practical alternative from one's inability to do the walk or run, on well-attended events hosted by two infamous organizations every year: Avon Walkhappening today at uptown Charlotte} and Susan G. Komen. It was, and still is, a brilliant idea, but sometimes, you just have to walk the walk...

Can't Walk Can't Run? Just drink Coffee! - 5 No-Brainer Ways to Show Support for the Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It's October and you know what that entails. It's Breast Cancer Awareness month! Which means, that everywhere you look, you'll see a proliferation of that familiar pink ribbon not just on TV, in-store decors, print ads but moreso on product labels. A time where the world unites to help support organizations in finding a cure to that deadly disease: cancer.  It's also that time where everyone, including me, wants to do something to show our support for the cause, most common is participating in a walk or a run. But if you're like me, can't walk, can't run - due to lack of proper training - or simply don't have the time to or downright not physically fit, what then can you do? I came up with 5 simple solutions!

Shop For The Cure

I'm seeing Pink again!
Nope, like I already said last time, I'm NOT dating Pink the singer nor do I have Pink-eye! It's just that PINK has dominated my world again and this time its' a whole new experience...

I will be a part of the juried Craft show hosted by Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Arts and Craft Show titled Pink at the Plaza SHOP FOR THE CURE on May 2nd, saturday from 10am to 3pm. And if you can't tell, I'm actually very excited and very honored to be a part of something this big with a huge cause!

As you have guessed, besides filling-in special orders and such, this is the main reason I have not been spotted in and around the blog scene nor in the blog-mixer crowd for the past few weeks. I have taken liberty in spending most of the time creating unique pieces for the show and prepping for it. I wanted to be able to have enough to sell and enough to generate sales to donate to the cause. Part of the guidelines of the show is for vendors to donate at least 10% of their sales to the Breast Cancer Foundation which I'm more than happy to oblige to.

Making a difference no matter how small in way of my creations is my goal for this show. I'm hopeful...one creation at a time...

"I also want to say a shout out to all of you who had been loyal to this blog inspite the absence of reciprocal visits and comments to yours. Be known that your support and kindness means a lot to me and that you are a part of all my adventures and successes!"

If you are in Charlotte NC, come and say Hi to me at the show. It will be at The Promenade by Providence.

Address : 5335 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy
Charlotte, NC 28277

I'll see you there...Also, if you want to be a part of this cause via online, all purchases in my online store Golden Flower Creations on May 2 will be included. Be a part of something big just by buying products you love...

My deepest thanks in advance! And as soon as the "craziness" has passed, I shall yet to visit all of you back again. Till then...

I'm Seeing Pink!

Now, now, before it creates any confusion, I didn't mean "seeing" (or dating) Pink the singer, like what this Nameless Twitter friend thought (duh!) - not that I don't like - take note- her SONGs - but nah! maybe one day when the world flips over and I turn gay! ( I can hear thunder and lightning rolling by - No Lord, I was just joking). No Armageddon wish here.

Anyway, October has been roaring and screaming with PINK (the color, of course), being it the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My household is proud to say that we are a supporter of the "Pink Syndicate" via Avon Walk. As a matter of fact, for those who don't know, we are dedicating a walk to my sister-in-law ( hubby's sister) on October 25th here in Charlotte NC. My hubby volunteered as Crew Team Leader while, I ( a divalicious bummer), supposedly walking this year, unfortunately couldn't make it! Yeah you guessed right (I hope!) - lack of Training indeed being (lazy) busy with work and (diva) life! Maybe next year...I have to start kicking off the Corporate heels and putting in the sneakers more often...

In the same grand fashion of celebrating this (boobsy) Pink month, I want to share this article about Nutrition for Breast (boobsy) Health. (Notice the "boobsy" interjection? sorry can't help it! I just have to say! It's all about the boobs afterall!). I hope you pick a thing or two that makes perfect sense to you. Now, it is not to say that doning that pointy Madonna spiky bra will actually add more sense to all these...but hey, you can try.

This article is adapted from Natural Awakening, spiced up with my little quirkiness. I dare you to read on...

1- EAT THE RIGHT FATS ( we have them and still trying to lose it- do we really have to eat more?)

Yes
- right ones : Fish Oil (Omega 3 Fatty Acid), Borage Oil or evening Primrose oil (contains Gamma Linoleic Acid), Flax Oil ( rich in alpha-linoleic Acid), Olive Oil and Shark Oil.

2- Get some Sun! - Vitamin D
Don't forget the sun tan lotion too. Vitamin D is produced in the skin when the body is exposed to at least 15 to 30 mins. of sunlight. OR just eat fatty fish like Salmon and Sardines as well as fortified Milk.

3- Eat that Broccoli ! - ( Look at your face grimacing! I love Broccoli ! ) yes- Cruciferous vegetables my dear...

Eating 2 servings a week of cruciferous vegetables helps counteract excessive level of estrogen*. Cabbage, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and Cauliflower contains ANTI-CANCER, detoxifying substances.

*Excess body weight , particularly abdominal fat leads to increased levels of estrogen which has been linked to Breast Cancer.

4- Balance the Body's PH
Eat more Alkaline plant foods: Fresh fruit and veggies, dairy product: cottage cheese and yogurt, organic chicken, turkey, beef and fish. Dried beans: Garbanzo and Black beans, whole grains: Brown rice and oats, nuts and seeds.

5- Eat Less sugar (There goes my sweet tooth)
Sweets raises high blood glucose levels . Eat fewer sweet fluids and foods including high-glycemic fruits like watemelon and pineapple. Avoid High-fructose corn syrups commonly used in processed foods.

6- Add Micronutrients
Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium and Chromium, along with Probiotics.

7- Use Healthy Seasonings (dump that MSG now!)
Cinnamon, ginger, curry powder, onions, stevia, and garlic which has powerful antifungal and antibiotic properties.

8- Drink Green TEA (I'm drinking that now!)
It is rich with potent phytochemicals which helps prevent and possibly reverse some forms of the BIG C!

9- Exercise! (aw-not this one!- hubby shut up! not a word!!!)
30 minutes of exercise everyday cuts the risk of Boobsy Cancer by 75%. Regular Exercise improves immunity, lymph flow, and functions of the body's natural detoxification systems.

If this makes perfect sense to you- please pass the message. Let's help our Boobsies and our Boobsy and not-so-boobsy friends keep their boobsies so we and our boobsies can all continue enjoying our filthy expensive bras for the rest of our lives!- (and have hubby buying us more too!)

Ok 'nuff Boobsie talk... go spread the word - If we can help kill the disease with helpful informations! - Let's!

Every 15 minutes

Every 3 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Every 15 minutes one dies from it. Thousand tears had been shed...Thousands more will be shed...every 15 minutes...these are hard facts and hard to accept. Breast Cancer has been and is killing a lot of women all over the world even at this very moment, as I blog about it...doesn't that just break your heart knowing this?
Mine did.
We went to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Expo today and seeing all the posters of loved ones whose lives were snuffed short by the disease was so compellingly sad to even look at. Reading all the dedications and promises written on them was enough to bring you to tears! Even the two long banners that was laid on the floor by the door as you enter the main hall (see picture above) was enough to take your breath away. It was filled with signatures of people either fighting the disease or walking for a loved one who had passed away. I looked at it with utter disbelief. So many...so many people... I know how it is to lose someone you love...it hurts...and for a long time...

My hubby's sister is currently fighting breast cancer. It is a tough ride for her but she is fighting. She's got 4 kids...we're dedicating the walk to her...

Please do yourself a favor (unless you're a man) : Get a mammogram. Perform monthly breast self-exams. Have a clinical exam and talk to your doctor. And encourage women around you to do the same. Early detection helps save lives.

If interested, Avon offers free annual mammogram Reminders: Application Form

You can also help save lives by donating to the cause or any cause...Each penny you give will mean an extension of life to others...

Any Thoughts ?
