Carowinds County Fair officially opened on March 25 of this year, with a promise that it will take you back in time to experience the good 'ol rides that brought tons of fun and excitement for the whole family in the olden county fairs of the past. My family and I had the opportunity to visit Carowinds on Easter weekend and witnessed the 4 classic rides of the newest attraction of the park in action.
Be prepared to have fun.
Electro Spin
Not for the faint of heart. Imagine yourself attached to a giant mixer while it whirls around and rotates in seemingly all different directions as it goes up and down and side to side. You get the idea. Not as exhilarating as Fury 325 but the thrill factor is definitely comparable. Highly recommended for those who are very adventurous and don't mind being whisked away up in the air in circular motions, upside down.
Do-Si-Do
Seeing the ride for the first time may give you an impression of an Octopus with three red huge tentacles filled with spaceship cars. A fun ride that kids apparently love - as the long line to the ride can surely attest to that. The ride glides and sway up and down as the three arms rotate in a synchronized motion. It's mild enough that even the less adventurous adults will enjoy it as well.
Zephyr
This ride is like a Carousel in the sky. Riders are suspended above ground, then it slowly rotates in to full thrill speed, going around in wave-like motion, tipping from side to side. Think of it as the big kids' version of Charlie Brown's Wind Up ride, but triple the speed and motion.
Now before you complain and say, "no roller coaster ride?" There is one actually.
Rock 'N' Roller
A thrilling fast-paced roller coaster ride that goes around and around, up and down to the tune of an upbeat music and lights to add fun to the whole experience. If you don't mind a roller coaster ride that goes on a circular track, then this one's for you.
And when you get hungry...
You can grab a bite at the nearby Wings restaurant for some hot pizza, chicken tenders, burgers and more.
Summer is almost here and Carowinds already got your fun vacation destination laid out for you. All you need to do is get yourself out there and have a blast at the County Fair!
Obviously we did, and we're going back of course.
Notable note:
County Fair is right next to the water park.
Flying Cobra is undergoing a makeover to fit in with the County fair theme. Stay tuned.
