Why I Love the Christmas Season And It's not About the Gifts

Or that my birthday is three days before Christmas. Actually, it leaves much to be desired if you were born in this most-celebrated season. December birthday celebrant will agree that your birthday gets overshadowed by Christmas itself. Truth. So, yes, not that too. But don't get me wrong. I don't hate my birthday either. But now, on to why I love the season. Want to take a shot at guessing?

Answer? This.

It brings me joy to be able to decorate and unleash my home decorating prowess every year. Call it, my alter ego in the form of Martha Stewart putting on the ritz to every nook and cranny of my home. Believe it or not, it is very therapeutic and satisfying as well. To have a home decor that look like it popped right out of the pages of a magazine - and is your original creation - is nothing but self-gratifying.

Let it snow.
I fell in love with the idea of snowflakes, which I attempted to put together last year on my mantel. I decided to use the same theme this year and I believe my version this year, looks a lot more ritzier!  What do you think?

O Christmas tree...
I went back to basics on my tree decoration this year. I decided to utilize the sets of decorative balls and ornaments that I have "ignored" for years, and then went for the purple and red color theme with silver accents to make them "pop". Simple met beautiful. Don't you agree?

And of course, I have my little manger next to the tree and strategically placed lit decorative candles all over the living room to bring warmth and cozy feeling to the whole ensemble.

Geek Alert

It won't be right if I don't inject some geekness to my holiday decor. This is what makes it a unique representation of "us". Do you know, ahem, WHO they are?

Some home decor tips that cost less but does the work elegantly. They're incorporated in this theme:

  • Glass vase - fill with a combination of plain and decorative Christmas balls or fill them with Christmas lights to brighten up a corner or two.
  • Tree branch - paint it white, silver or gold and they become instant decorative accents.
  • Decorative metal candle holders - Dress up your battery-operated decorative candles with them and see them transform into elegant accents.

Consumer top tip:
You don't have to break your bank to achieve these looks. Some of my items were purchased at the Dollar store. See anything familiar? And, the best time to buy your next year's Christmas tree and holiday decor is right after the holidays when most stores put them up for sale as much as 75% off.  Can't beat that! You know where I'll be after Christmas. But for now....

Merry Christmas!
