Hail to the Women!

My S.O. just told me that today is International Women's Day. "Huh?! It is?!" Was my pathetic response. "Yes it is!" Him affirming with a clever smirk that shows he has yet again outwit me. It doesn't happen all the time. So, little victories like this makes him smile. But seriously, how can I not know this? Too late in the night to bust out my favorite wine to celebrate now -- but not to late to cheer. Hail to the women!

Isn't it great that there is a day dedicated to recognize our femininity and the power of our gender? Though equality is not yet achieved globally, it is great to know that there are powerful women who broke the gender barrier and made it into history!

Here are some notable women who have become household names :

  1. Corazon Aquino - The first woman president of the Philippines.
  2. Margaret Thatcher - The Iron Lady. Longest serving Prime Minister of UK.
  3. Mother Teresa - Global Ambassador of Peace and charity.
  4. Rosa Parks - The first lady of Civil Rights.
  5. Pocahontas - Celebrated woman in real life and in Disney films.
  6. Marie Curie - First woman to receive Nobel Prize in Physics.
  7. Amelia Earhart - First female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean.
  8. Joan of Arc - Maid of Orleans and Commander of the French Army.
  9. Eleanor Roosevelt - Longest serving First Lady of the US and the icon of feminist.
  10. Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit - First woman President of the UN General Assembly.

"Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood." -Marie Curie

Proud to be a woman! Hail to the women!
