Lorax is the buzz word these days and it can't be helped. It seem like every child and their parents, who have either seen or hoping to see the movie, are abuzz with praises and intense admiration for this excitable movie. I just got back from California on a business trip and was a little clueless at these recent trend, not until I told my friend, while her 7 years old daughter is listening, if I can take her (the daughter) with us to watch this movie (she's BFF with my daughter). As soon as I mentioned "Lorax", she squealed and literally jumped up and down inside the backseat of her mom's car making it rock a bit! Ok, that got me. I was even more intrigued to go see this movie!
We met with other local bloggers and their children at the movie theater and congregated over yummy cups of different flavors of Stonyfield YoKids and Oikos yogurts before heading inside for a sweeter treat of Lorax! After everyone had finished their snacks, off we went! Parading like a troop of excitable army of anxious moms, dads and children who can't wait to see the movie!

Though the movie started out a little slow and a bit boring, "origin of the story needed to be told" as hubby defended, it went smooth sailing after the story prologue was taken out of the way. Thanks for the popcorn that kept me awake while I was at the verge of dozing off to sleep. I was almost disappointed but as the main story plot slowly unfolds, the excitement started to unravel. The story depicts a world teeming with digital gadgetry and modern technology and where fresh air was a rare and expensive commodity alongside the absence of real trees and plants! This was the opening salvo of the movie that immediately captures a curious mind as to why it is what it is.
Moving forward. The movie can easily be translated in several ways. It can be about chasing a dream and finding ways to make it happen, but at the same token can also be all about greed. The cause and effect of it all. Though to most younger viewer, it is something that was not easily deciphered - to them it's just another animated, funny movie - but of which was a little more obvious to older children. A good lesson to reinforce on maturing minds like my daughter's. Though it started with a flair of the typical boy meets girl spin, the twist was subtle and was eloquently diverted to a fascinating adventure that caught all of our attention. In the end, it was a story about triumph and one that was of course expected with glee.
Most of all, it was also a lesson in preservation. Where no matter how far-advanced we are in technology, we only but have one world to live in and if it dies, we die with it and no amount of technology can help us survive it's destruction.
And Lorax the mystical creature that speaks for the tree? He was more of a side character than the focal point in the whole story which to me somehow brought a little disconnect and a bit of confusion as to why the movie was titled after itself when the movie generally revolved around the story of this guy named Onceler! They could have easily titled the movie Onceler and we would easily identify why. But of course, this is just me and my honest opinion. In spite of these being said, I conclude that I nonetheless enjoyed the movie and recommend it as a fun family movie night option.
