Personal Story: Twas' Odd the Night AFTER Christmas

If you're a writer {even when you're not}, you would understand when I say, just like friendship, inspiration comes in strange ways, forms or setting. Today is a PERFECT example! Although today is really NOT a perfect day.

So, here I am sitting in my living room, day after Christmas, trying to look alive. Lack of sleep will make you do that. An odd day it sure turned out to be. My husband woke up with a headache and is now either half-delirious with pain or half-asleep, sprawled like a tabby cat on the opposite couch. And my daughter, well, she is still asleep because she had a rough night waking up with an earache. Me? Obviously, I don't need to tell you what I'm up to. Contemplating on today, the poem Twas' before Christmas started to play in my head. Hmmm...seem like this day is turning odd-er as I expected...but then Va-Boom! inspiration (or madness?) hit me!

Like a sonata with impeccable tempo, it kept playing. And if the day can't get any odd-er than it already is, I must have lost my mind because I started to see parts of the poem being replaced with my own words in my head like HD 3D! Call it channeling the twisted Matrix mind of Keanu Reeves' character in the movie. Um, Ok, that's creepy but Read on if you dare! I think MY version of the poem pretty much captures the oddity of my day today...

Twas the night after Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring (everyone’s sleeping in), except for me and my mouse.
The stockings still hung empty by the chimney with un-care,
In hopes that they would soon magically disappear from there.

My child is still nestled all snug in her bed,
While visions of  Just dance 3 danced in her head.
And papa with his eye mask, and I in my pajama,
Had just settled his brains for a short post-Christmas nap as I, blog.

When out by the window, there arose such a knocking,
I sprang from the couch to see what was all this tapping.
Away to the window I flew like an angry bird,
Slowly open the blinds and flipped upwards each slat.

The sun on the breast of the bright after Christmas day
Gave the lustre of mid-day to tangled Christmas lights below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a woodpecker, pecking on my window sill…

I hope everyone had a Happy Christmas and all. And to all, a good year ahead!

As for me, I think I need more coffee...
