Charlotte Moms Like Me

Super Mom Me with my little cutie
Psst! YOU can win a shirt just like this!
(look for details below)

When I moved to Charlotte 6 years ago, it was particularly tough not having any family close by. It's like being in a lonely planet. No friends to hang out with. No Mom friends to connect with either! It was crazy! So, I went online and searched for local Mom groups to connect with. I was lucky to find the relatively well-known group (which will remain nameless) and signed up immediately. I did connect. Started to make friends. I even organized a day-out for all the Moms & Kids for a free Martial Arts class so we can all get together & meet in person. Things were looking up, so I thought...

Due to life & work, I was not able to sign in for about a month and what do you know? For some odd reason, my account was disabled! WTH?! Weird part of it, I haven't heard from any of those moms either during that course of time. Not even the moderator who I was in constant contact with. And I thought I've made friends. I guess they never really cared about their members. And that site has so many restrictions it was utterly ridiculous! From then on, I was hesitant joining other so-called local "MOM" groups in this area again. It was a very distasteful experience.

The Lovely Beverly (City Ambassador aka sleepymom7) and Me
at the recent Moms@Work Luncheon

Then my blogging life took off, I've gotten more "connections" online but I still craved local mom connections. So I searched AGAIN and Eureka! CharlotteMomsLikeMe.com! Ok for the life of me, I was a bit reluctant joining but hey, I'll never know until I try, won't I? So, I "tested the waters". I liked it and never looked back since! Only a month being a member, I already feel "at home". I made great friends and was privileged to meet these wonderful ladies during the recent Moms at Work Luncheon on Sept. 17 in person! Can't wait to hang out with them again soon.

If you're a mom looking to connect with other moms in Charlotte, this is a great site to be a part of and let's just say that this site is way more member-friendly and everyone here is so supportive & will make you feel at home instantly! 3. I would love to win! I really think it is essential to connect to other moms for the support. We have to remember we don't have to do this parenting journey alone... we can all be there for each other!

  4. The first group you contacted? Weird. I can imagine how hurt you felt.

It sounds as though you've found a good group of women now so maybe that first lot ultimately did you a favour! ;) It's also great to have online friends. Over the years I've met a great bunch of people online, people I'm sure I would never have otherwise have come across.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and I hope you'll come again and enter my comp / giveaway. (One day soon I'm going to have to decide exactly what it *is* that I'm doing)!

  7. It can be very isolating to be a mom. It's great to meet other moms and be able to relate and get out and do things.

I'm so glad you found this group and that it made up for the unpleasantness of the other group.

  8. You are so right that making friends in a new city can be so hard -- especially for moms. Kudos to you for not giving up despite your first bad experience. You're setting a great example for your daughter, too. Good for you.

  9. No mother is an island. You got the right attitude you have to search and you found one ok not lucky for the first time though.
It's important to mingle with others moms especially if its your first time you can share experiences and advice each other etc. I was lucky that I said yes to a mother group which is offered to pregnant women here in Denmark where the nurse gathers mothers in the same area and group them into either 1st time or not and the most important you should give birth on the same month. I cherish all the first with my group and until now we exchange news and meet but I hope hunger for more like the Charlottemomslikeme. your lucky
